Outside Play and Learning

At North Mundham we believe that children can learn best through play experiences and when they are having fun. In September 2023, we became part of the OPAL initiative. This means that pupils are provided with daily opportunities to explore their own interests through play. Every playtime (both morning and lunchtime), pupils can take part in a vast range of activities. These include;

  • Den building
  • Sports- football, cricket, hockey, basketball, tennis, table tennis
  • Scooters
  • Water play
  • Sand play
  • Dressing- up
  • Forest play
  • Building
  • Painting
  • Mud kitchen
  • Imaginary games

The children play an important role in planning the activities and decision making through our play rangers and in regular play assemblies.

Safety

Safety is an important aspect of OPAL and our adult Play Team are trained in risk management. Pupils are encouraged to manage the risk benefits of activities and consider how best to manage these risks.

We work together as a school community to create exciting, fun and safe opportunities to suit the needs of our all our pupils.

Equipment

The majority of our equipment is donated by our school community and we have received some amazing items so far; boats, kitchen equipment, chairs, pallets, sinks, buckets, steering wheels, tubes, gutters, shirts, clothes, suitcases, toy cars, small world play, Lego, scooters, bikes, Duplo, office equipment and the list goes on. In addition, our amazing PTA have raised funds to pay for other elements of our OPAL provision – our OPAL shed, huge sandpit, slack lines, scooters, football goals and basketball hoops.
