PE
Your child’ s teacher will inform you when PE sessions are. They should wear their PE kit to school on these days. This should include plimsolls or trainers. In the winter they may wear tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirt as we may still have PE outside.
Hair
Long hair MUST be tied back at all times for safety reasons and to stop the spread of headlice. More information can be found here.
Toys
Please do not allow children to bring toys or games into school as they are a big distraction and can easily get lost or stolen.
Fruit & Water
Children in KS1 are provided with a piece of fruit every breaktime. Children in Early Years have this in their class and KS1 children have this as part of their playtime. In KS2 your child may bring a piece of fruit in from home to eat at this time. Children should all have a water bottles which they may access during the school day. Water aids concentration and supports learning. However, any juice or flavoured water is not allowed and will be replaced if brought in.
Lunch
All children in Reception and Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) are entitled to a Universal Free School Meal. Chartwells provide the meals. They are heated onsite and served by Chartwells staff. The school has to pay (£2.30) for all meals (from a budget provided by the government) even those not eaten. Please ensure that you inform the office if your child is having a packed lunch and does NOT require a hot meal.
If your child brings a packed lunch please note that sweets, chocolate bars and fizzy drinks are not allowed. Please ensure that packed lunches contain a healthy balance – not just crisps and biscuits.
Children in Key Stage (Year 3 and above) can also have a Hot school meal but these must be ordered and paid for by parents online. (See above link).
Chartwells cater for special diets but these must be organised in advance with the company.
Pupil Premium
Some children (through the whole school) are entitled to Free School meals because parents are claiming certain benefits. If you think this might be you please follow this link to the Pupil Premium registration service.
To view our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement, please visit our Policies on the Key Information webpage.
Helpers
We welcome any parents, carers, grandparents or other relatives who have a bit of free time to come and help at our school. It is a great way of finding out about school life and becoming a part of our school community. You will need a special (DBS) check before you can help so please let your child’s teacher or the school office know if you can help so that we can organise this.
Communication
Electronic newsletters are sent out at the end of each week, you will be emailed a link for these. They will also be posted on the website, found here. Please check the school website regularly as it has up-to-date information. We use the ‘My Child At School’ app to communicate with parents so please ensure that you have downloaded the app in September for updated messages and information.
Parking
We are lucky that we have use of the parking area adjacent to the playing fields. Please park in there and walk your children in to school. Please DO NOT park on School Lane or in our turning circle as this must be kept free of cars (unless disabled) for emergencies.
Remote School
North Mundham Primary School uses Google Classroom to deliver remote online learning. Up to date information about classes including homework can be found there.
Your child already uses a username and password to login to the IT systems at school. To login to Google Classroom use the same username to add to the email address and use the same password. If the password is less than 8 characters, please add sufficient hashes (#) to the end of the password to make it up to 8 characters.
For example:
Username: yournamexxx@northmundham.w-sussex.sch.uk
Password: planet2#
NB: Remember to change the highlighted words to your own login credentials.
Please contact the school office if you require any help signing in.
Forest School
We value learning outside the classroom and are lucky enough to have a Forest School area (The Fuzzies) on site. Each class will have a series of sessions at different times of the year. Your child’s teacher will let you know when this is. Children should come dressed for forest school on these days. This is run by an experienced Forest School leader.
Attendance
It is very important that your child attends school every day from the beginning of their school journey. Regular attendance helps children to feel safe and secure in the school environment which will help them to be successful in their learning.
Attendance is statutory once a child is 5 years old. This means that any child who is absent must have a valid reason. If they do not then their absence will be unauthorised and will affect their overall attendance figure. If attendance falls below 90%, then parents will be contacted and support will be offered to ensure that this improves. In extreme cases parents are referred to the Pupil Entitlement service and this could result in legal action. Any request for absence must be made through the school office. Holiday will NOT be authorised in most circumstances. Please see our Attendance Policy for more details.
Equality
It is very important to us that everyone is valued and treated with equity regardless of their race, gender, culture, beliefs or background. We ask that you respect this and support us to help your child to understand how important this is in today’s society. Discrimination will not be tolerated in any form at our school. Please see our Equality Policy for more information.
