Arrangements for September 2020

Dear Parents / Carers and Children

We have now received DfE advice for the full opening of schools from September 2020. I hope the information here will give you reassurance of how we will be operating for the well-being of all concerned here at North Mundham.

The school will be operating in Class ‘bubbles’. The class ‘bubble’ will work, play and have lunch together during the day and contact with other ‘bubbles’ will be minimised.

School starts on Thursday 3rd September for all pupils in Class 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

 Prevention

    • No child should attend school who has any symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID 19) or if they have tested positive for Coronavirus within the past 7 days
    • Children must self-isolate for 14 days if a member of their family is displaying symptoms of Coronavirus and / or tests positive for coronavirus.
    • We will continue to wash hands thoroughly more often than usual eg on arrival, before and after break time, before and after eating, before leaving at the end of the day.
    • We will continue with the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach for sneezes and coughs.
    • Additional cleaning will take place during the school day of ‘touched surfaces’ and toilets etc.

Dropping off and picking up

We will be continuing with staggered drop-offs and pick-ups.

Class R, Class 1                  Drop off 9.00am                Pick up  3.20pm
Class 2                                  Drop off 8.50am                Pick up 3.20pm
Class 3, Class 4                  Drop off 8.40am                Pick up  3.10pm
Class 5, Class 6                  Drop off 8.30am                Pick up 3.00pm

Brothers and sisters may be dropped off and collected at the same time. Please drop off at the correct time for the eldest sibling.

In the classroom

Pupils will be seated facing forwards in all classes. We will minimise furniture and spread the class out as much as possible. There will be no bigger ‘meetings’ of pupils together eg assembly.

Lunch will be eaten in the classroom at the table where the child normally sits. Tables will be cleaned before lunch.

Curriculum

We will start on our new year group topics from the beginning of term and your new class teacher will send out the usual topic letter. Maths and English learning will focus on new learning as well as additional sessions for pupils who need to secure work covered during Lockdown. If you are concerned that your child did not engage well with Home Learning, please contact your new class teacher to discuss this as early as possible. A message through the office email address is probably easiest.

PE – the priority will be outdoor sport whenever the weather is kind. We will use the hall for dance-based PE only.

Well-being – all schools have been asked to consider the well-being of pupils as they return to school. We will be using some story books during September to help us all settle back to good learning attitudes and focus on building resilience.

Equipment

The children will be wearing school uniform again please. This includes: dark school shoes; dark grey trousers, shorts, skirt or tunic; white polo shirt and a school jumper or cardigan. The children will need to bring a coat. They can bring a bag and a water bottle will continue to be essential. Please contact the school office if you wish to order school uniform.

Children will have individual sets of pencils, rulers, glue sticks, scissors etc. Please do not bring in pencil cases from home. Sports equipment will be cleaned if used by different bubbles. Computer keyboards will be cleaned before use. Books can be used by different pupils in the bubble but we will continue to ‘quarantine’ books that have been sent home before they are sent to a different home.

Before School and After School Care Club

Initially in September these can only operate in ‘small, consistent groups’. Therefore, we can only accept regular bookings at the moment and not ad hoc arrangements. Please contact the school office as soon as possible for more details or if you need to book a place as numbers will be limited. Payment will need to be made a month in advance for the places reserved.

Snacks and hot lunch

Children in all year groups may bring a snack of fruit and / or vegetables only for morning break. Hot lunch is available free for pupils in Class R, Class 1 and Class 2. Older classes can order a hot lunch via the Chartwells website or bring a packed lunch.

There will be no ‘Fruity Friday’ until further notice.

I realise that this is a lot to read and take in but I think it is important to share as much as possible about how school will be in September. I would just add – advice tends to change or be added to – so I will keep you updated as necessary.

Yours sincerely
